Week of Crazy!

So this past week has been nuts. I had two tests and I had three papers, and one class presentation. And to add to the crazy I went home in the middle of the week. I got my tests over with and all but one paper done by wednesday and headed home. I was going home for the USU vs. BYU basketball game.
The game was pretty intense. It was tied most of the game, and got really intense towards the end. But I noticed that the BYU rivalry was getting really pathetic. A lot of the adults (not just students) were getting really cocky. They would stand up and shout things to the USU students and it was just getting too much. Its just a game, and I know we all like to boast and scream and to cheer, but the BYU fans were getting way too much into it.

The next day, I had a doctors appointment and I went out to eat with my parents. Then we had the HARRY POTTER movie!! The boys and I spent the afternoon making shirts to wear to the premire. USSynthetic had tickets to a private showing that came out before midnight. It was amazing I loved the movie. I had a blast! I can't wait for the next one to come out in JULY!!

After that I drove back up to Logan for the IWA girls choice dance. I am in the presidency so I had to find a date. Oh what fun that was. I don't know any guys this year, its kinda pathetic, I ended up being set up on a date. It turned out to be really fun, I had alot of fun with the girls in the chapter. The next morning I drove back to highland to get ready for HAWAII! We are on our way and I'm so excited.
I'll keep ya posted! K

JOB!!!

I finally got a job.
I am working as a receptionist in the undeclared advising office. I am so stoked about this. My prayers have been answered. Thank you to all of those who have fasted or prayed for me. I really appreciated it.

No more Facebook

So my roommates and I have decided that we waste so much time on Facebook, that we decided to leave the stalking, selfish world for a while and focus on school. It will be great, I did this last spring for a month and a half and I am excited to do it again. Last time when I did it, I felt like I had more time to read my scriptures and talk to other people, and focus more on my school work and finals.

In this past conference President Uchtdorf gave an amazing talk about simplifying our lives and focusing on what matters most. He talked about over scheduling and on our relationships. He quoted Elder Oaks and said,
"Elder Dallin H. Oaks, in a recent general conference, taught, “We have to forego some                                   good things in order to choose others that are better or best because they develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthen our families.” "

I love it. Facebook isn't a bad thing but it can keep us from doing better things that will help us improve and that will matter in the long run.

I'm excited to be productive and to find better things to do. Maybe I'll be able to finally finish the Doctrine and Covenants, and progress and get the Book of Mormon done this year. I'll spend more of my break with my family and my brothers and I'll be able to get better grades. I'm excited for what happens.

Anyways, Follow my happenings here, because this is the only way. No more facebook!

Halfway

So at the beginning of the school year. My dad gave my mom and I a challenge. We had to each lose a certain amount of weight, and if we did we would receive a reward. We have until the end of the year to complete it. My mom wanted to lose 15 pounds by Hawaii and then 5 more before the end of the year. My goal was to lose 30 by the end of the year.

We haven't been doing any diets, so there is no one short answer for this success, or for the solutions we have found. My parents and I have done numerous on diets South Beach, Weight Watchers, Low Carb, and so on. This time we are just doing healthy living. No strict diets, eat what you want but in smaller portions. We try to exercise everyday and eat healthy foods. I can still have ice cream or treats, but I just know I can only have a little bit and then exercise that night.

It has been great since the beginning of the school year I have lost 15 pounds. It has felt great, my pants have been feeling really loose. Its still have 15 more to go, but hopefully you can tell.

I have been using this app on my itouch that is called Lose it. You can set goals, and you add everything you eat all day. It has a great pool of foods with all of the nutrition numbers attached to it. Its awesome. It shows me that if i want to lose this much weight by this date, these are the things you need to do. It also lets you add your exercise in which give you more calories to eat for the day.

Anyways, I just wanted to share the happy news, and share my new healthy lifestyle.

CES Broadcast

For the past 8 weeks, Ally and I have been going to choir practice for the upcoming CES fireside. It was a great experience. We were able to sing some amazing songs. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had.
My favorite song we sang was True to the Faith. Brother Salmond decided that we should sing this song in different languages. We sang it in Spanish, Portuguese, and in Korean, and of course English. It was so amazing, I felt the spirit so strong as I stood true to the faith, making a promise to the Lord.
Elder Ballard gave an amazing talk too, he talked about keeping the gospel simple. He also continued his talk from general conference. He talked about satans lures that he uses to lure us away from the straight and narrow. He then talked about the Principles of the gospel and how we can use them to stay anchored in the gospel everyday.
He gave a list of questions of things we should ask ourselves to make sure we are on the right path, and things we should make sure we are doing.
Are you Happy? Saying your Morning and Nightly Prayers? Studying your Scriptures?Being Honest? Kind? Thoughtful? Following the Brethren? Worthy of a Temple Recommend? Attending the Temple? Avoiding Pornography? Attending Church Meetings? Taking the Sacrament and thinking of Christ? Searching for a Spouse? Really Looking? Doing your best to follow Christ?
I loved this list of questions. I really want to type up this list and place it in my room, so then I can read it often and make sure I am aligning my self with where I am suppose to be. I am thankful for this list, because if I am doing all of these things I know I will be what the Lord wants me to be.
Another question that Elder Ballard mentioned was " Are you giving the Lord equal time? Don't let the world steal what is most precious." He is such an inspired man. I know that these words are from God and that he was inspired to share this message with us. There are so many lessons that can be learned and characteristics to be taken into our lives. I hope I can remember this talk and always try to put the Lord first and to be True to the Faith.

Here is the link to the Fireside, I challenge you to watch it, If you haven't already.

At the End of my Rope

So last year my roommate Ally gave me this quote on my cheez-it box, since I have thrown the box away, I have moved the quote to my water bottle. The quote is
When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.
- Franklin Roosevelt.

I love this quote, but its not until recently that I have really come to find out what it means to tie the knot and hang on.
I have been looking for a job in Logan, for going on two plus months. I haven't found anything! I am getting desperate. I am living as frugally as possible, I don't go out to eat (very often, and when I do, its cheap), I don't go shopping and buy new clothes, or even buy groceries( Yay for mom and dad's pantry). So as of now I am getting to the very bottom of my bank accounts.
If anybody knows of a job around logan, PLEASE let me know. I am still a student so I am only looking for part time, with about 10-20 hours a week.

I have fasted and prayed, gone to the temple, All I know is that the Lord with provide me with away. I know something will come available. I just have to keep going on and keep trying to find something. I was talking to my mom tonight while driving around Logan, and she kept telling me that I needed to just keep looking for options, and to keep praying and having faith. So if those of you that read this will please say and extra prayer for me tonight, and think of any possible options for me that would be great!

Also I am apart of the IWA presidency for the Independence chapter and there is a girls choice dance coming up next week. As such, I have to go to the dance. This has always been a problem for me. I have never had a lot of guy friends in my life, I went to a couple dances in high school, but they were all girls choice, and here I am in college and I am still in the same situation. I was told before I came to college that the dating was the best part. False. I don't see it. I have made some amazing friends, don't get me wrong, but the whole dating thing. No. So that is another challenge, I must find a date for the dance that is two weeks away. So if you know any great guys that are taller than me, and don't have anything going, a week from friday, and wouldn't mind helping me out that would be great!

Anyways, I'm at the end of my rope, so all I have to do is tie a knot and hang on :)

An Indian Summer

So it is November and we are having days in the 60's, its gorgeous. It has been great to still be able to be outside and still walk to class with out freezing to death. Today I went on a hike with Alyssa, Shelby and their friends.

Then Jen, Ally and I went to the USU Football game. It was a beautiful day for Football. USU beat New Mexico State, 27 to 20. BYU beat UNLV 55 to 7. and TCU beat Utah 47 to 7.

Now I'm just chilling at home on a saturday night (which is now known as date night). All of my roommates and friends are out on dates and I'm just chilling at home watching friends and working on my photo blog. Check it out at kayleesandstromphotography.blogspot.com

Major Switch

So yesterday I officially changed my major. When I say I have just changed my major everybody reply's "again?" No, Not again!! I started out a Undeclared Business Major, then went to FCHD and now to my Family Consumer Science Major. This is the third, so no not AGAIN!!
I am really excited about this major. It is really what I want to do. I love sewing and cooking. With this degree I will get my teaching license. This degree has a 100% job placement outside of the state of Utah, and smaller with in. And I will be able to teach in a school, or from my house. Plus I don't have to get a masters!! YAY.

Well stay tuned for more info, but as for now I will be graduating Dec 2013. (gag, but I'm happy with it. Hopefully by taking summer class I will be able to graduate sooner.)

Halloween!

We have been celebrating this wonderful holiday all month long. We have been carving pumpkins, going to the pumpkin walk, making caramel apples, been to DI to find costumes, we went to the Haunted Labs, and then of course Halloween night.

Carving Pumpkins was a blast this year, we all did something different. Kelli did her's for North Carolina, Lauren did a ghost, Hannah did a normal pumpkin face, Jen did the Nike Swoosh, I did an owl, and Vanessa did a butt. She found a pumpkin that had a crack in one side of it so she picked it up and decided to do it as a butt with a thong in it. Wow.

On the friday before Halloween we weren't doing anything and we decided to go to the Haunted Labs on campus. It was great. I hate being spooked, scared or startled. I was very hesitant about going, but i didn't want to sit home, so I decided to suck it up and go. I figured I would bail out just before we went but no I went through the whole thing. Most of the time I just kept my eyes forward, going as fast I could. There were some parts that I had hold of Vanessa and Hannah pretty good. Looking back I seem like a total dork, but at the time I was not amused.

Then Saturday night when Utah celebrates halloween, all my friends and roommates were headed to the Howl or a dance at Hamiltons. I didn't want to pay money to go to the Howl, especially the atmosphere. So I really wanted, and planned on going home, again. I have been home so much this semester, its crazy! My mom told me to stay in logan and meet some people and make new friends, and go to my ward. One night after choir I met Ally's friend, Brynne. We became buds, and decided to do something that weekend, because we were both in the same predicament. We planned to have a potluck dinner with who ever wanted to come, then to go to the first basketball game, then see where the night takes us. We ended up eating dinner at Brynne's friend Wes's house, he made homemade ribs. DELICIOUS!! Then we played games until game time, after we wanted to go miniture golfing at this haunted place, but we got there and it was closed because of the rain. We decided to then go hot tubbing at Maple Valley and then watch a movie. It was such a chill night. We all just relaxed and enjoyed one another's company. ( Sorry no pictures, I didn't have my camera)

The following day was the real Halloween, and we decided to have a themed Sunday dinner, and invited some guys we had met at the hot tub a couple of days before.

We had a grand ol time cooking dinner and preparing. Here is what we made.

Jello with worms and berries
Candy Corn Pizza and Mummy Dogs

Dirt Cups with worms and head stones.(These were my favorite)

Random things of October!

Through out the month of October we had a great time living it up and getting ready for Halloween. For homecoming week we went to the paint dance.

And since our house was built in the 1800's we are freezing. We had to get warm by snuggling some how.

Lindsay's Weekend

This year for Lindsay's weekend we ad a jam packed weekend. We had my brother's last football games, which ended up being canceled because of the crazy rain. Dad left for the BYU football game and we headed to Provo as soon as the boys' game. As soon as we got to the game the rain stopped. When the game was over we headed up Provo canyon for dinner and to go to a play to remember Lindsay's day.
We went to this delicious cafe, and I tried the grilled cheese with pulled port. So Yummy. And then we tried these gorgeous deserts, which Lindsay would have loved.
We then went to the little community theater in Heber City, who was putting on the play Seven Bride for Seven Brothers. It was far from great. Seven Brides for Seven brothers is one of my favorite movies ever. I grew up watching those old classic movies, Love it! The play was awful, there were some brides and some brothers that could have been parents to the other brides and brothers. Some of the singing was okay, but they cut out half of the songs and wrote their own new ones.
Anyways the next day the boys and I wanted the real version. Everything was restored. I forgave the Timpanogos play company.

Anyways on Sunday we all went to church and it was the boys' primary program. They did a great job. Mom and I were doing okay emotionally until the closing song. We sang I know That My Redeemer Lives. It was emotional because Linds and I sang that song in a trek fireside and we sang the lines
He lives and grants me daily breath. He lives and I shall conquer death. He lives my mansion to prepare. He lives to bring me safely there.

We both just lost it, and all of my young womens leaders were sitting on the stand looking at me. Not good!

That night we had family and friend over to look at picture and to talk about Linds. We got out her chocolate fountain. It was delicious and a great way to remember. Love her!!

Fall Break

So I am a little behind on blogging. But oh well. So this year for fall break I went with my family to Park City with Dave and Jill and their family. It was so much fun. We stayed around the hotel alot, and went hot tubbing, played games, shopping, alpine slide, and just hanging out.

It was beautiful weather, no snow!
The alpine slide was great, we got there when it first opened and there was no line!

We played soccer, baseball and tag at the park, for all afternoon. We were there for hours!

That afternoon we also went to the Shops on Mainstreet. Ellie and I had to take a picture with the favorite cow!

Then we all went bowling. It was a pretty classy place.

And like I said before, we played a lot of games and went hot tubbing. I love hanging out with the Holts, they are so much fun and our families have a blast.
